First I wanted to share with you some crafts my littles have been creating.  For those of you who do not know, I am an in-home childcare provider and have a range of children from 17 months to 4 years.  This serves as a challenge when planning art activities for all the children.  But, I have found that differentiating the activity is key!
Peppermint Scented Candy Canes

I cut candy cane shapes from white cardstock.  I added strips of tape to make the stripes on the candy cane.  I did this step for my young ones and let the pre-k’ers do it themselves.  We stuck the tape to our shirts before sticking on the paper, so it wouldn’t be toooo sticky and rip the paper when coming off!
I added a bit of peppermint extract into the red paint.  We painted and room smelled yummy!  After the candy canes were dry, we pulled off the tape.  Viola!

  Scented Gingerbread Men
  Next week is Gingerbread Week and I plan on creating scented gingerbread men, much like the candy canes.  I will add some ground ginger to the brown paint.  We shall wee how it goes.  Has anyone tried this?

Glittery Ribbon Ornaments

      Our last craft was perfect for fine-motor practice.  We made glittery ribbon ornaments.  I cut the ornament out along with the inside of the ornament.  I attached clear contact paper to the front of the ornament.  Then, the kids put small pieces of ribbon I had cut off the Christmas wrapping ribbon roll and placed them on the sticky side of the contact paper.  We stuck them to the back door so the sun could shine through!
