It’s so strange not having a classroom this year. I’m used to working with a theme, but it’s hard to choose a theme when you’re not sure exactly what role your room will play in your students’ lives. Honestly, I just couldn’t get inspired either! I pinterested my little heart out to no avail. Nothing struck me as “me.” Or, at least, “me this year.”
Then, I received this precious baby announcement from my cousin, who actually teaches K in Tennessee:
Pax is adorable, but the actual invite is what finally got my classroom décor mojo on the go go. I thought to myself, Hmmmmm, I think I could make a bulletin board similar to that. Last year, I would’ve been painting my initial freehand. But, this year? Hellllooooooo, Cameooooooo!
Do you Cameo? No? Well, you should because Cameo = Pringles. Once you pop, you can’t stop. Or, rather, I can’t stop Cameo-ing. We’re all teachers here, so we’re pretty much obsessed with fonts, right? Well, the Cameo takes your font fascination to a whole new level. YOU CAN TOUCH THEM. AND STICK THEM TO THINGS. I. LOVE. IT.
Also, you can cut out circles. Which was my first major feat. Just ask Deedee. {PS. The giveaway is over, but check out all the amazing links to other Cameo projects HERE!}
So, then, I made this:
The lettering and fun shapes were all made with the Cameo! And that Pinterest-inspired scrunchy border took me THREE HOURS. But, it looks so cute, so I’m going to say it was worth it! Thanks so much for the idea, Peace, Love, and First Grade! You rock! {PS. I’m going to use this board to introduce myself to my fellow basement dwellers, since I’m in the intermediate hallway now and will likely be working with many of these students. Then, I’ll introduce my assistants and students!}
Then, I had two other bulletin boards to do. Unfortunately, I didn’t have another twelve hours to invest in scrunching, so I decided to do a little mock-scrunchy border with fabric. Same idea, it just gives more of a ruffle border. {To make it, I just cut long strips of fabric – about 4in. wide – pinched, tucked, and stapled. Took about 30 minutes to do a small board.}
Then, there’s this ginormous board, clad with Cara’s Chevron Alphabet! Me loves!
My room still has a long way to go, but I feel like I need to know my kids’ needs before I can make it suitable for them. In the meantime, here’s my desk area:
{The absence of the complete ruffle border is killing me. I ran out of fabric. Boo. Going to Joann’s tomorrow.}
Desk space:
On my desk:
{Owl from Target Dollar Spot for $2.50, magnetic frame from Joann’s, fun-shaped Martha Steward post-its from Staples, and the bird’s nest magnetic paperclip holder is from a boutique in Michigan.}
I am obsessed with the bird.
Then, there’s these Martha Stewart frames from Staples:
And, lastly, the blah wall. That I haven’t figured out what to do with yet.
Don’t you just hate bookcases nailed to the wall? Too bad they didn’t consult me when they designed the building. Just sayin’…
And, I’ll leave you with this. Because what’s a picture-laden post without another picture?
We went to a birthday party at a farm this past weekend, and I straight up asked the farmer if he’d sell me this huge, vintage chalkboard that dates back to the 30s (he thinks!). It was just hanging out in a tent, lookin’ cool. And, stop the world, he said yes! It’s about 6.5 feet long and 3-4 feet wide. I’m pretty much obsessed and can’t wait to get it home!!!!
That’s all I got. I started back today and kids come on Wednesday. Crazytown!
Happy back to school!
