Y’all, I still have to go to school tomorrow. And the day after that. And the day after that. These built-in snow days are killing us! Suuuuuuure, I’d love to work 5 extra days for free! Me? At the pool? Nah, I’d rather be indoor with 22 Tasmanian devils!
But, in my mind I am totally pretending that it is summer. I started working on my summer to-do list today, which included a multitude of Pinterest projects that I couldn’t wait to tackle!
Besides making cookie dough dip, angel food cake lemon bars, and prepping bananas for homemade ice cream this past weekend, I also decided to make a batch of homemade play doh – with a little twist! {I must admit, the “twist” is courtesy of a teacher friend who is blogless. I told her I was going to post about it! Thanks, Pam!!!!}
Scent-sational Smelling Playdoh
First, gather all the necessary ingedients…
- 1 c. of all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. of salt
- 1 c. of water
- 1 tbs of veg oil
- 1/4 tsp of lemon juice
…and here’s the “twist!”
Instead of using food coloring or kool-aid to color the play doh, use one package of Duncan Hines Frosting Creations Flavor Mix! They have the *best* kid-friendly smells EVER (i.e. Bubble Gum, Chocolate Marshmallow, Cinnamon Bun, and more!!!!!). And, they’re only 99 cents!
Anyway, mix all the ingredients (except the flavoring packet) over medium-high heat until it thickens.
We used cotton candy because YUM, and Becks was pretty much obsessed with a big ol’ bag of it this past weekend.
Then, you just mix and mix (over the heat) until it turns into a big dough ball. Then, scrape the sides and dump onto a sheet of wax paper. Let it cool for a few minutes, and then knead out any lumps. This will also help mix the color in better.
The result? Ah-mazing! Ours smelled good enough to eat!
Becks is snuggling it in the first picture because it was still nice and warm :)
I’m pretty sure my students would be equally delighted over this smelly stuff! Soooooo super cheap, easy, and quick. Just the way I like it :)
{My lofty blog goal for the summer is to post lots of thrifty teacher ideas! I’ve got the DIY bug since we have nothing left to DIY around our house these days. Well, maybe one big thing (painting the stairs), but I’m really putting that off!}
Love y’all and congrats to those of you enjoying your first day of summer vacation tomorrow!!!!!!
