Summer Programming

Happy Summer, everyone!  Seriously, I have *never* been more happy to welcome summer as I was this year.  2011-2012 school year?  Buh-bye.  As y’all know, it wasn’t just school – but more so life – that got in the way of everything this year.  I needed a break.  So, hello, Summer, it’s so good to have you back around :)

I mentioned last week that I would be popping in every now and then with thrifty DIY projects for your classroom – which I completely intend to do – but I don’t really want the responsibility of having any have-tos this summer, so the summer programming at The Inspired Apple intends to be inspiring just not necessarily classroom-oriented all the time.  I figure that I spend enough time obsessing about school August through May that it’ll be okay to be a little more relaxed about my content during the beach months.

Also, I made a very loose promise to myself to actually accomplish the things on my summer to-do list instead of just talk about them.  Or, pin them, rather.  {Seriously, I AM ADDICTED.}  The computer does not deserve more time than my boys, my house, and myself.  Amen.

So, here is my today to-do list…

043

I figured a very minor list each day would be helpful.

First up, Zumba.  Which I immediately followed up with a mini-meal at McDonalds.  Guilty.  The kiddos picnicked in the back of my car before wearing themselves out at the park.  Those are Becks’ 8-feet long legs to the left.

049

Then, it was off to library to pick up some summer reads.  I just about died when I realized they had a copy of the newest Pete the Cat.  Becks and I are already in love with his groovy buttons.

053

Laundry?  So done.  Chest bump and a big ol’ high five for me.  You have no idea what a feat it is for me to get caught up on laundry.  Seriously, I hate it.

046

Then, before naptime (yes, Becks – at almost 4-years-old, will still nap for a good 2-3 hours every day!), I decided it was about dang time to spray paint a mirror that’s been hiding out in my closet since garage sale season last year.  I bought it for 5 bucks and just adoooooore its curves.  {Oh, my.  Look at all the dust on that mirror.  Or don’t.  I blame it on all the renovating we’ve done…}

044

This is where your thrifty teacher trick of the day comes in: DON’T BE SCARED OF SECOND-HAND.  Go to yard sales, visit your local Goodwill or Salvation Army, pick through your neighbor’s trash, scan the ads on Craigslist.  Believe me, you can totally make your house Pottery Barn/West Elm/Hipster/Shabby Chic on an Ikea/Target budget.  Stretching your teacher salary isn’t as hard as you think, promise!  {Currently writing that post in my head…}

Okay, so back to the mirror.  First I had to tape the mirror off, which was really the most annoying part of the whole project.

050

Then I went to town with a can of white Rustoleum.

051

And, now, she dries…

052

Sigh.  I love her more already, which I really didn’t think was possible.  The bad news is she weighs a gosh darn awful lot, and I don’t think I can hang her without B’s help.  So, I’m going to practice patience and will add that to the to-do list for tomorrow.

Next up, Swiffering and Egg Salad.  I’ll spare you the pictures.

Happy, happy Wednesday to you!
